Jumbo White Sage stick. Approx. 23cm.

Sustainably harvested in California by Native Americans. Chemical free.

White sage is commonly used for smudging, a cleansing ritual practiced in many cultures, especially by Native American communities. It's believed to clear negative energy, purify spaces, and promote healing. Here's a simple guide on how to use white sage:

1. Gather Your Supplies

  • White sage bundle (dried white sage leaves bound together).
  • Fireproof container (like a ceramic dish or abalone shell) to catch ashes and hold the smouldering sage.
  • Lighter or matches to light the sage.

2. Set Your Intention

Before lighting the sage, take a moment to set a clear intention. Whether it’s to cleanse negative energy, invite positivity, or simply refresh your space, focusing your intention helps guide the ritual.

3. Light the Sage

  • Hold the sage bundle at a 45-degree angle.
  • Light the end of the bundle using a match or lighter.
  • Let it burn for a few seconds (10–20 seconds), then blow out the flame so the sage begins to smoulder and release smoke.

4. Smudge Yourself (Optional)

  • If you want to cleanse your own energy first, wave the sage bundle around your body. Start at the top of your head and move downward, making sure to cover the front, back, and sides.

5. Smudge Your Space

  • Gently wave the smoke into the corners, along walls, windows, and doorways, where energy tends to gather.
  • You can use your hand or a feather to help guide the smoke.
  • While moving through the space, focus on your intention, visualizing the negative energy being cleared away.

6. Extinguish the Sage

  • Once you're done, carefully extinguish the sage by pressing it into your fireproof container. Make sure the bundle is fully out to prevent it from smouldering unattended.

Tips for Using White Sage:

  • Ventilation: Keep a window or door open while smudging to allow the negative energy and smoke to exit.
  • Respect & Sustainability: White sage has cultural significance and is considered sacred in many Native American traditions. Use it respectfully and consider buying sustainably harvested sage.
